You may have heard about foodbanks... so let us explain how it all works
Can people get food whenever they want?
No. You can't get food without a food voucher, which has to come from a referral agency. We work with over 100 agencies in our area including other charities, schools, social workers, GPs and the local council. If you need a voucher you will need to be referred to us. Due to Covid-19 we are doing our vouchers digitally but usually you would be given a red voucher which you need to bring it to the foodbank to get a food parcel.
Why can't just people budget properly?
We are often asked why people might need to use a foodbank. One of the answers is that life can be uncertain, and if things go wrong, then sometimes it's hard to plan and even harder to budget. Many people come to us because of things like divorce, debt, sickness, an operation or a child's illness. Most people are only a few paychecks away from not having enough money and if things go wrong, or circumstances suddenly change, then sometimes people need to come and get some help with food.
