Our food parcels are designed to provide you with three days worth of emergency food.
Due to the need to store our food carefully we plan our food boxes so that the basic contents don't contain any fresh food. Your food parcel will contain a variety of different things designed to allow you to make meals for everyone in your household for up to three days. This will be a combination of tinned fruit and vegetables, pasta and rice, tinned meat and fish, beans or spaghetti hoops and bean meals, some biscuits and puddings, long life milk and juice, noodles and soup, tea or coffee, cereal, jam or honey, some loo roll and soap. When we have fresh food we give this out too. These items might be fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and fresh milk but it depends what we get on the day.
The Trussell Trust (which we are a part of) has worked with nutritionists to try and come up with the best possible combination of food that will allow people to make meals cheaply and quickly, whilst still providing them with basic nutrition. We also offer a kettle box if you only have a kettle to heat water and microwave boxes if that's your only means of cooking, so please let us know. If you are street homeless we can provide a cold box so that you can eat everything without heating.
If you have been the victim of domestic violence or if you have had to move home quickly, let us know and we can also provide you with a starter box which will contain household basics such as sponges, cleaning fluid, salt, pepper, dish cloths, a tin opener and cutlery.
In addition to food, if you need toiletries like shampoo, conditioner or shower gel, feminine hygiene products, washing powder, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pet food or baby items like wipes and nappies, please let us know.
