If you find that you don't have enough to eat, don't worry. We know that asking for help from a Foodbank for the first time can be a daunting prospect. This is how it works.
Due to Coronavirus we are delivering all food parcels at the moment. this means that you don't have to go to the Foodbank - we will deliver directly to your home.
In order to get a food parcel you need a referral. You can't get food without one, and the referral has to come from a referring agency. A referring agency could be your school, doctor, local council or Citizens Advice - we have many voucher holders in our local area. Usually, they would give you a red voucher to bring to the Foodbank but due to Coronavirus the vouchers are passed directly onto us where we process them and get a parcel ready to be delivered direct to your door.
There are two key agencies you can contact to get help and those are:
Lancaster City Council Community Team - 01524 582 000
Citizens Advice North Lancashire - 01524 400 404
Give them a ring, explain that you need an emergency food parcel, and they will talk to you about your circumstances and make a referral. We usually limit our food parcels to three per crisis, but due to Coronavirus we are speaking to people about their circumstances so please don't worry if you need to keep using our services at the moment.
Please be aware though that the Foodbank is here for emergencies and is never intended as a long term solution. If we feel that you are using the foodbank too much we will refer you to Citizens Advice so that they can speak to you further about your circumstances and offer more help.
